The best laptop deals on the market

Laptop prices for high-end models can be exorbitant. If all you need is a reliable machine with no-fills functionality, look for laptop deals on computers made by reputable manufactures with affordable price tags. Generally, laptops for cheap prices come with economical hardware and fewer options. Still, manufacturers prioritize usability, so you can beat high laptop prices and still get a quality computer.

One other strategy is to look for laptops on sale. There are a few times of year when electronics retailers offer reduced prices on computers and computer accessories: during the back-to-school rush, Black Friday, and the Christmas and post-Christmas shopping season.

Sale prices on higher-end machines notwithstanding, here are our picks for the best cheap laptops:

Dell Inspiron 14z

The Dell Inspiron 14z has garnered excellent consumer reviews for its combination of affordability and performance. This machine combines most of the must-have computer features, including a widescreen display and a generous RAM allowance, with a very affordable price tag. In terms of bang for your buck, computer industry insiders are virtually unanimous in their agreement that this is one of the best options on the market, if not the best. If saving money is your top priority, Dell also allows you to downgrade certain components. The one big knock against the Dell Inspiron 14z is its sluggish battery life. You also don’t have the option to add a webcam, and these machines are not Bluetooth compatible.

HP Pavilion dm1z

While the HP Pavilion dm1z suffers from a relatively slow processor, and its relatively small screen size isn’t optimal for multimedia applications, it does boast a very long battery life and provides excellent features for the price. Wi-Fi connectivity is built in, something you don’t find in all cheap laptops. It is also very lightweight and relatively thin, but on the whole, reviewers are disappointed by its performance. This is due in part to the middling processor, but you do have the option to upgrade it if you want to improve system performance.
